Academy 21 Plan - Remainder of 2019-2020 School Year
On behalf of the entire Academy 21 staff, I must say that we are deeply saddened that we will not be able to return to life as we know it before the end of the school year. We care deeply for every student, and know that for some, being able to have in-person interaction is what keeps them motivated, supported, and safe. In this time of crisis, we are here for students and their families. Reach out to any of us, any time. We are your partners in education!
As a result of Governor Whitmer's Executive Order, Academic Labs will NOT reopen for students to work with staff in person during the closure.
Students will continue to work on their online courses to earn credits (Grades 9-12), and demonstrate that they are on pace to be promoted to the next grade level (Grades K-8).
How can students get help with their classes or emotional support?
We have several ways to assist students.
1. Like always: text, phone, or email.
2. All teachers have virtual open classroom hours weekly. Students can drop in and get help through virtual conferencing.
3. The school social worker will hold virtual conferencing groups for support, as well as host individual meetings for students and parents.
Mentors, special education providers, and the school social worker will CONTINUE contacting students/parents weekly during the closure. Two-way communication is important to make sure we have a connection between school and home.
Again, DO NOT HESITATE to reach out for support during the closures. Our main goal is to keep communication lines open to monitor student health, safety, well-being, and learning.
